Brain Drain

There is some research that claims that a phenomenon known as “Brain Drain” happens to our kids over the summer break.  The theory goes something like, “If you don’t use it, you lose it”,  and so by September our kids need to be retaught last years facts.

Well, here is a fact. My kids can name every single time we have ever said “No” to dessert in the last five years.  They can somehow recall exactly who passed the puck to Sedin before he scored that goal in a game in November of last year, (you know the one, right?) So please, please tell me why from July 1st to September 5th, my child’s brain somehow deletes all the useful knowledge garnered in a 10 month period.

Well, even if there is no viable explanation to this conundrum, we have a way to insure that the ABC’s stay firmly intact. Head down to our local ABC Country Restaurant and let the kids read the menu. Over and over. See literacy is not dead.

Also, see if the kids can do the math. “My parents paid $10.00 at www.lovethatdeal.ca and ended up with a $20.00 Voucher to buy us dinner.  Doesn’t seem to add up but boy are they happy.”

Right. Well kids, it’s as easy as ABC and 123.
