The Company

As a young man living in the Netherlands in 1955, John Dys decided to join the army. A short while later John decided it wasn't for him and he wanted "out". The Dutch army understood the fact that a person has the right to change their mind, so they offered John three options. Finish your service and retire, die, or leave the country. Well, lucky for those of us living in Western Canada, he chose the latter option, and his path led him to the restaurant business. In 1970 he opened his first restaurant called the "The Frying Dutchman". After a visit back to his homeland he was inspired to share the Pannekoek in his new country. So, in July of 1975 he opened up the "Original Dutch Pannekoek House". Today there are 21 restaurants, including one right here in Maple Ridge that opened in 2011.
