Another gift from the gold rush. When Levi Strauss was a young man in around the 1850’s he was attempting to sell supplies to gold miners. He had some rough canvas to use for tents, and to cover wagons. A miner mentioned to him that it would have been more useful if he had brought pants. So, he made the canvas into overalls. When they proved to be a little uncomfortable, he sourced out a twilled cotton cloth from France known as “serge de Nimes”. Eventually “de Nimes” became denim, and the rest as they say is history.
Hang On. Not quite. Yes, the fabric is still denim, but the styles and variations have come a long, long way from the overalls Mr. Straus crafted. Sure there are those who still find the ruggedness and durability of the fabric to be a great asset, however, now with designers who can create curves and make beautiful jeans, they have a place far outside of the mining community.
Today’s Deal is an opportunity to get some hip hugging, curve creating, styling “de Nimes” from Triple Crown Apparel. As we all know, a great fitting pair of jeans is worth their weight in gold.
