I remember a song from my childhood that began, “Let there be peace on Earth and let it begin with me…” As a child I sang along but never really understood what it meant beyond the concept of not stirring up extra trouble with my brother. Now as I rush about my daily life, trying to keep up with all the pushing and pulling of these adult responsibilities I realize that peace is a concept that does indeed require a lack of conflict, but not necessarily just outside of ourselves, but also refers to an inner peace.
In fact another phrase comes to mind, “Be the change you want to see in the world,” and when I piece these together I realize that if we can find peace for ourselves as individuals, we can then share that peace with our family, friends and neighbours, and well, at the risk of sounding a little too idealistic, the world. At least our parto of the world, and who knows what can happen from there.
All this talk of peace sounds great, but how exactly do we achieve such a lofty goal? Well, I don’t have any definitive answers, but I do have a suggestion for a starting place. Today’s Deal is for Meditation Classes at Oxygen Yoga, where the instructor will share her quest for spreading peace. You can go and sit quietly for a period of time and find some semblance of peace and quiet. How far that peace takes you, well, I can’t be sure, but I do know, that even one hour of peace a week is at least a step in the right direction. Since the destination is finding inner peace, and sharing it with the world, I’m thinking any step forward is a step worth taking.
Peace Out (and In!)
