Resolve to Relax

Lots of people use the recent change of the calendar to mark the start of a new chapter in their lives.  There are the common resolutions to lose weight and quit smoking, maybe with an additional oath to floss more or drink more water.  However, if we were to look at the bigger picture, the common thread between many resolutions is the promise to do more to take care of our own health.  Some of these resolutions can seem daunting, but with the focus being on well being, it makes them a worthwhile endeavour.

Today’s deal is a great way to promote good health, and it is by far and away my favourite way to engage in the battle of the New Year’s Resolution. “I resolve to get a Massage more often this year.”  How great is that? Oh yeah, I’ll drink more water too!

Anyway, below is an excerpt from the Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals website.  Once I read their list of benefits, I realized this was one New Year’s Resolution I have to keep!

“There’s no denying the power of bodywork. Regardless of the adjectives we assign to it (pampering, rejuvenating, therapeutic) or the reasons we seek it out (a luxurious treat, stress relief, pain management), massage therapy can be a powerful ally in your healthcare regimen.

Experts estimate that upwards of ninety percent of disease is stress related. And perhaps nothing ages us faster, internally and externally, than high stress. While eliminating anxiety and pressure altogether in this fast-paced world may be idealistic, massage can, without a doubt, help manage stress. This translates into:

  • Decreased anxiety.
  • Enhanced sleep quality.
  • Greater energy.
  • Improved concentration.
  • Increased circulation.
  • Reduced fatigue.

Furthermore, clients often report a sense of perspective and clarity after receiving a massage. The emotional balance bodywork provides can often be just as vital and valuable as the more tangible physical benefits.”
